HOW TO JOIN THE MDSA FACEBOOK GROUP
- Go to www.facebook.com
- Input the requested information under the Sign Up header. Please note that even though it asks for your birth date, you will have the option to keep this information private (see Settings once the account is set up). Click the Sign Up button.
- You will be asked to enter two words that appear in the box on the screen. This is a security procedure that is common these days. If you can’t read the words in the box, click the link provided to see different words. Enter the words and then click the Sign Up button.
The above three steps are the ONLY ONES that must be followed. The remaining steps can be opted out of by clicking the “Skip” link at the bottom of each page.
- Facebook will then recommend people that you may know (based on the information you provided) for you to select as friends. This step can be skipped by clicking on the “Skip this step” link at the bottom of the page.
- The next box asks for access to your email account to search for people in your address book for you to select as friends. This step can be skipped by clicking on the “Skip this step” link at the bottom of the page.
- Facebook will then ask you to fill out your profile. This step can be skipped by clicking the work “Skip” next to the “Save and Continue” button or you can continue through the process and add any information you choose.
- Once again you will be provided with a list of people Facebook recommends you “to friend.” Again, this step can be skipped by clicking the work “Skip” next to the “Save and Continue” button.
- The next step asks you to upload or take a photo for your profile. Again, this step can be skipped by clicking the word “Skip” next to the “Save and Continue” button.

Once the account is set up, then use the box in the upper right hand corner to search for “Minnewaska Distance Swimmers Association.” On the upper right hand side of the MDSA Facebook page is a link that says “Request to join.” Click the link and a request will be sent to the administrators of the group. Administrators will check your name against the current MDSA list and approve your request within a few days.
