TO JOIN MDSA

Swim ability testing for 2022 will begin Saturday June 11th.
Swim tests will be by appointment only; MDSA will make every effort to test all applicants.

You must apply online by filling in the online application, printing it,
and then clicking on the "Apply for Membership" button.

Note the Current Swim Test Schedule. As of June 14th ALL TESTS ARE FULL; you can be added to a wait list if an opening becomes a available.
Decide on a 1st and 2nd choice of the dates on which you want to test.
Send an email to MDSASwimTest@gmail.com with SWIM TEST in the subject line and your full name and your contact information, i.e., email and mobile number for texts, AND indicate your choice of dates for taking the swim ability test.

An MDSA volunteer will then confirm with you the date and time for your test and provide you with instructions. If for any reason you need to reschedule a test, please inform MDSA as indicated in the instructions you'll receive.

No "walkins"; you must have an appointment.
Please direct questions about joining to info@minnewaskaswimmers.org.

In order to join the MDSA you must pass a swim test administered by MDSA, fill out an application, and sign a release of liability for NY State Park and MDSA. You must be at least 18 years old, or 16 if your parent or guardian is an MDSA member and accompanies you to the MDSA beach.

You must adhere to MDSA rules (see MDSA Beach & Rules section) and pay annual dues of $25.00. The dues pay our insurance policy and other administrative costs — MDSA leaders are all volunteers.

Apply online in advance and BRING A PRINTOUT of your completed online application to the test.
Be sure to click on APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP before closing the screen.
You MUST also bring with you TWO headshot photos (1X1-1/4" cut to size) and $25 dues.

THE SWIM TEST

The test requires 500 yards continuous swimming: 25 yards crawl, 25 yards free style back stroke, 25 yards breast stroke, 25 yards side stroke and 400 yards additional swimming any stroke plus 3 minutes of treading water. (This translates into 20 lengths (10 round trips) of the pool — 1 crawl, 1 backstroke, 1 breaststroke, 1 side stroke, and 16 lengths any style — plus 3 minutes treading water.) THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT. Most people complete the test in under 30 minutes, but you can take as long as you need.
